Fabulous Fall Autumn Wedding

Autumn is a great choice of season for weddings. The weather is pleasant and the venues that are normally booked solid in May or June may have more availability. It’s important to consider what your favorite time of year is when deciding on the wedding date, though. If you get hay fever every fall, then this is not the best time to be saying vows in front of a hundred people. If you have just started back to college and have a full course load, fall is not the time to be getting married and dealing with all the details of a wedding. If you have family birthdays or other holidays close to the date of your wedding, you might want to reconsider so that you do not take all the focus away from other important dates.

However, if fall is the season you choose for your wedding, here are some tips to make your blustery autumn day the most memorable one of your life:

  • Let the gorgeous fall scenery be your guide. Have your wedding outdoors. Try public gardens, your mom’s backyard, a vineyard, a bed and breakfast, the grounds of your church, a ranch or farm, an apple orchard, or a country inn. Keep in mind that you want the scene to be romantic, not just rustic. And don’t be afraid to ask national parks near your home. Some of them allow weddings on the park property amid the most breathtaking fall foliage our country has to offer.
  • Go with the colors of nature. The same colors that make fall leaves so stunning will really warm up your wedding theme. Try gold, burgundy, deep red, golden yellow, shades of green, and even rusts or warm browns. Some colors, like yellow and orange, don’t compliment every skin tone, so keep this in mind when choosing bridesmaid dresses. But go for whatever pleases your eye when decorating tables and selecting flowers. Use copper or bronze on the table to liven it up and give it an earthy glow.
  • Incorporate leaves into your décor. You can even create or purchase a leaf-themed invitation that coordinates with Mother Nature. Try using leaf cut-outs for place cards or sprinkled at each table. Cover small boxes with colorful leaf shapes or the real thing. Guests can take home party favors and a little bit of the season.
  • Don’t forget the food. You really can serve your fall favorites at your wedding. If you are having a sit down dinner, try serving turkey, pumpkin pie, and grandmother’s famous stuffing (she can give the recipe to the caterer). Or if buffet is more your speed, then serve small versions of the feast on whole grain crackers and bake mini pumpkin tartlets.

With autumn as your backdrop, your fall wedding is sure to be warm and memorable.
